The Cane Corso, also known as the “Italian Mastiff,” is a remarkable breed known for its protective nature, high intelligence, and deep bonds with its owners. From near extinction in the 70’s to the current popularity is a remarkable story of resilience and dedication. However, the breed’s newfound popularity has brought about challenges in the form of increased rescue situations, threatening its well-being and future.

Unfortunately, the surge in popularity over the past few years has had unintended consequences. Irresponsible breeders have flooded the market with poorly bred Cane Corsos, often selling them to inexperienced individuals who are unaware of the breed’s unique characteristics and training requirements.
Many Cane Corso puppies purchased from irresponsible breeders end up in rescue organizations later on due to behavioral problems, health issues, or simply because they were not prepared for the responsibilities of owning such a powerful and protective breed. The consequences of this trend are alarming. Cane Corsos are being surrendered to shelters and rescues at an alarming rate, and many face euthanasia due to being misunderstood, behavioral issues or lack of proper care. According to recent statistics, there has been a staggering 50% increase in Cane Corso surrenders to shelters and rescues over the past few years. This troubling trend threatens the welfare of these magnificent dogs and their future as a breed. It’s time we step up to help!
